Write job requirements that improve candidate matching

Start by separating true requirements from preferences. A requirement should be necessary to perform the role; a preference may improve ramp time but should not automatically exclude a capable candidate.

State seniority, salary range, location expectations, and whether each technology needs recent production experience. These constraints create a more useful threshold than a long unranked list of keywords.

Review the threshold against real candidate profiles before publishing. If almost nobody qualifies, the role may be over-specified. If everyone qualifies, the criteria are not helping your team prioritize.
