Apply smarter, not more: a better IT job-search workflow

August 2026 · Job-search guide

A productive search is not measured by how many tabs you open or forms you submit. Start by defining your target role, seniority, location, salary range, and non-negotiables. Use those constraints to remove weak opportunities before spending time on an application.

Keep one accurate master resume, then tailor how its evidence is presented for each role. Never add a skill because a job description mentions it. The strongest application is specific and truthful.

Finally, track the outcome—not only the submission. Shortlists and interviews tell you whether your targeting and presentation are working. Use the time saved on forms to research the company and prepare useful examples.
